international.MAN UTD ENTER COUTINHO RACEBarcelona’s signing of Coutinho may have become more difficult to achieve as Manchester United have entered the race to sign the Brazilian, according to Don Balon .The Spanish outlet claims Jose Mourinho is keen to add the attacker to his squad as the Red Devils look to close the gap between themselves and Manchester City.Paris Saint-Germain are also said a close eye on developments around Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s situation at Manchester United with a view to potentially signing the Armenian, according to Sky in Italy .The former Dortmund star has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in recent months, with Inter seemingly weighing up whether to make a bid for the winger. The Serie A title hopefuls are also interested in Barcelona centre of defence.BARCA PLOT COUTINHO & GRIEZMANN DOUBLE DEALBarcelona are planning to stun the transfer market in 2018 with Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann signings, according to Spanish outlet AS .Liverpool held firm in the summer to deny Barca from swooping for Coutinho, but it’s widely expected they’ll return with more money next year.Ernesto Valverde’s men now lead the race for Griezmann, too, with Manchester United believed to have refocused their attention on Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.MAN CITY TO BATTLE UTD FOR UMTITIBarcelona are bracing themselves for interest from Manchester rivals United and City in defender Samuel Umtiti, reports Don Balon .The La Liga giants fear that Virgil van Dijk’s £75 million move to Liverpool will see leading clubs turn their attention been rejected, according to The Sun .The Argentine is one of the most highly-rated forwards in world football and Jose Mourinho is believed to haver pinpointed him as a top target in 2018, rather than Antoine Griezmann. The reigning Serie A champions are reported to be holding out for £86m, which happens to be Griezmann’s buyout clause at Atletico Madrid.MAN UTD WITHDRAW GRIEZMANN INTERESTBarcelona will have a free path to sign £89 million-priced Antoine Griezmann, with Manchester United not keen to participate in a bidding war for the Atletico Madrid striker, according to Marca .It’s believed Jose Mourinho is a fan of Griezmann but is not convinced the France international is worth such a hefty transfer fee.Barca, meanwhile, are monitoring Griezmann and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, though the club can only afford to sign one of them.PSG WANT FELLAINI ON A FREEParis Saint-Germain are making enquiries to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer in the summer, according to the Mirror .After the stunning double swoop for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, PSG are keen for cheaper alternatives because of Financial Fair Play, with the Belgian high on their It’s believed Besiktas and Galatasaray are also interested in the 30-year-old.PL CLUBS EYEING CARRASCOPremier League sides have been alerted after Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone gave the go-ahead for the club to sell winger Yannick Carrasco, according to AS .Manchester United and Chelsea have been heavily linked with the Belgium international in recent months, with Carrasco’s contract boasting an £86 million release clause.Nicolas Gaitan and Luciano Vietto are also understood to be on the transfer list.

The Reload is PFB’s recruiting recap, catching you up to speed with the latest Oklahoma State recruiting news with an ear to the ground for what to expect in the future.Junior Day OffersAmong the many sporting events taking place in Stillwater on Saturday was an important recruiting event that takes place under Mike Gundy’s watch. Generally close to 100 recruits make their way from all over the state and surrounding area to visit the facility, meet with coaches, and of course go to the basketball game. It’s an official visit of sorts, minus the fact that OSU pays for it.Coaches generally take this time to hand out scholarship offers to some of their targets on the board, and Saturday was no exception. Here’s who Oklahoma State offered, along with a list of visiting prospects.Jordan Kelley — Nose TackleYou’ll never believe it, but Union produced another Division I talent in Kelley. Shocker, right? The offer to the junior defensive tackle/defensive end is his second. Tulsa offered earlier in 2016. Now Oklahoma State.Listed at 6-foot-3 240, Kelley is one of the most disruptive defensive lineman I’ve seen in person. He’s a bully in the middle and with his combination of size and agility, he reminds me a little of Vincent Taylor. Just an athletic freak for a player of his size.Julon Williams — AthleteMike Gundy loves him some dual-threat quarterbacks who have versatility to play other positions. That’s Williams’ profile in a nutshell. With his experience playing at the quarterback position as a supreme runner and passer, he’s a playmaker that can be slotted at any position. So he’s an athlete Oklahoma State is willing to take a chance on, extending an offer during his visit.Rated as a three-star recruit at 5-foot-10 188 pounds, I’d like to think this offer may be as a defensive back/athlete. But the reality is that he could play on both sides of the ball with his versatility.Byron Hobbs — Outside linebackerOffer No. 1 is in for Fort Worth (Texas) Eastern Hills outside linebacker Byron Hobbs, and OSU is first in line.6-foot-4, 205 pounds? From Fort Worth? And still hasn’t garnered interest elsewhere? I’m betting that changes. So I like this offer.Trey Stratford — Offensive Lineman6-foot-4 three-star offensive lineman Trey Stratford, a prospect from Allen, Texas, was offered yesterday.Being from Allen — one of the most dominant high school football programs in Texas — he’s not been a well-kept secret. Baylor, Mississippi State and TCU have all joined the list since the year began, and Texas, Ole Miss and Houston also have standing offers to the offensive tackle.Blake Barron — Inside LinebackerAnother first offer out the door on Saturday. This one to unranked inside linebacker prospect Blake Barron of Rockwall, Texas.Oklahoma State is now pursuing both inside linebackers from Rockwall. The OSU staff offered 2018 linebacker Alston Orji, a four-star recruit, earlier in 2016. Barron is an underrated backer, though, and at 6-foot-1 218 pounds I think he has good size at the inside backer position.Nic McTear — Tight endNic McTear picked up his first Division I offer with OSU’s on Saturday. From Frisco, Texas, McTear will likely be a steal as an unranked recruit right now. He has good size for a tight end, he has very good leaping ability, and he’s a solid blocker — and important characteristic OSU needs for its cowboy back position.Rafiti Ghirmai — Offensive LinemanAnother Frisco native with an offer on junior day: rising offensive lineman Rafiti Ghirmai. A three-star offensive tackle, Ghirmai already has 12 Division I offers and counting — 9 since Jan. 1.As everyone knows, offensive tackle is a position of high importance for OSU. And even if it gets solidified this season, it’s always smart to look to the future. Ghirmai would be a nice one to pick up down the road and can take care of QB Spencer Sanders blindside.Byron Hanspard — Wide ReceiverFor yet another cycle, Oklahoma State is seeking the commitment of a DeSoto wide receiver. Three-star Byron Hanspard is the latest:Also on his offer list: Northwestern, Houston, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Colorado and Texas Tech.Gemon Green — Defensive backAnother DeSoto product, Gemon Green has been offered by Oklahoma State as a defensive back. The latest defensive back from DeSoto to pick OSU was A.J. Green in 2016.With 8 offers already, OSU is getting in on the ground floor. Green has legit size for a defensive back — a trait OSU loves. And he’s a lanky athlete that can evolve into a lockdown defender.German Green — Defensive backALERT. We have another brother target. German, the brother of Gemon, happens to be twins with him. German is an inch taller than Gemon.OTHER VISITORSTaye Barber – QB/ATHWayne Jones – SafetyTommy Bush – WRTre Adams -WRParker Cupp – OLRylan Mcquarters – ATHAdrian Wilson – WR/ATHSean Shaw, Jr. – WR
In Oklahoma State’s spring football press conference, OSU head coach Mike Gundy said that the Cowboys will have more varied looks on defense in the future, and that includes using more three-down lineman fronts in 2017.The Cowboys used the formation a number of times last season. The 3-3-5 defense has a number of variations, but the Cowboys mostly used it last year in passing situations. The 3-3-5 in its original state (six in the box, secondary pressed at the line of scrimmage) often employs the “disciplined aggression” philosophy, relying on zone blitzes and pressure to stop opposing offenses. Additionally, it creates an unusual front for the offense to block against, which can aid the defense in the running game. When the Cowboys used the 3-3-5 last year, though, they used it in a more simplified state. They used a 3-3-5 “across”, which means that all five players in the secondary align roughly 7-10 yards behind the line of scrimmage. This is a conservative defensive alignment used to stop the deep ball and force everything underneath. Here’s a graphic from a Chalk Talk article on last year’s Texas Tech game:The defense occasionally struggled in this personnel, as they gave up easy throws that often went for big yardage thanks to yards after the catch. The 3-3-5 is most effective as an aggressive scheme, and the Cowboys used it more conservatively with mixed results. The tough thing about the 3-3-5, and with any pressure-heavy defense in modern football, is that it goes against offenses that operate with a much higher tempo than when the defense became popular in the early 2000s.At that time, a defense could call different exotic blitzes with no worry about having to call plays on the fly. Now, if a defense calls a blitz and the quarterback throws for a first down, the defense has to call another play on the fly with the knowledge that using the same blitz call twice in a row is a major risk. This isn’t to say that the defense can’t succeed in modern football. There are plenty of teams who successfully use exotic defenses, such as Arizona and West Virginia. The issue is that the defense takes time to learn, and no team is going to have success if they don’t have the ability to analyze and learn the defense extensively. This is where the hiring of defensive analyst Brian VanGorder comes in. VanGorder has extensive experience with three-down hybrid defenses, tracing all the way back to his job coaching linebackers at Grand Valley State in 1989 under current Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.Gundy believes that VanGorder can help the Cowboys incorporate the three-down philosophy into their defense.“I think college quarterbacks have become coaches on the field,” Gundy said earlier this week. “If you don’t give them a different look sometimes and use some variation in your defense, they’re pretty good at picking you apart. We think there are times for three-down and times for four-down … and that’s why I wanted to bring a guy in to help us with how much you need to work on each area.”The Cowboys aren’t going to completely overhaul their defensive system, but they are going to venture into becoming a more varied defense. The hope is that they will have enough time and knowledge to be able to use three-down sets more effectively than they did last year. There were times where it worked well and there were other times when it did not. But with an offseason in front of them, and plenty of bright defensive minds on staff, they have plenty of time to turn it into an asset. Oklahoma State kicks off the 2017 season two weeks from today. Let’s look at a Cowboy who could go from a casual fan’s afterthought to the most important player on the roster at any time. How he got to OSUQuarterback Taylor Cornelius hails from Class 2A Bushland High School (Texas) near Amarillo. He wasn’t heavily recruited but that wasn’t for lack of trying — or production. His senior season, the 6-foot-6 QB threw for 3,815 yards and 46 (!) touchdowns — all while completing 65 percent of his passes. He was a star basketball player and also competed in baseball and track and field. How that alone didn’t earn him a scholarship offer from Gundy, I have no idea. What he’s done in StillwaterCornelius has been in a backup role since 2014 when he and Mason Rudolph came in together. While Rudolph turned into a record-setting star and Heisman candidate, Cornelius has stood behind the scenes working on his game and his body. Coming in as the walking portrait of lanky — 6-6 and 184 pounds — Cornelius has added over forty pounds to his frame and is up to 225.Heading into this past spring game, all the buzz surrounded redshirt freshman Keondre Wudtee and early enrollee Jelani Woods. But it was Cornelius that was able to make plays going 5 of 9 for 77 yards and a touchdown. He also ran it four times including a 21-yard play. How much would Cornelius have played had he graduated high school one or two years earlier? It’s a good question. He was an inexperienced walk-on true freshman when Gundy and Co. decided to burn their highly-rated rookie’s redshirt at the end of 2014. But what if they stakes weren’t so high? What if there wasn’t a Mason Rudolph in front of him? What could Cornelius have done with a little more opportunity? On an episode of our PFB podcast, Kyle Porter asked former OSU wide receiver David Glidden to name the most underrated quarterback he ever played with at Oklahoma State.“To be honest with you, I might have to say one of the most underrated and overlooked guys is a guy that’s here right now in Taylor Cornelius,” said Glidden.“The kid throws an outstanding ball. He’s big. He runs a lot better than people think, a lot more athletic than people think and he’s worked ever since he’s gotten here.”Glidden raved about Cornelius’ work ethic and how he came in as a “twig” but has built his body up. He also talked about the obvious talent he brings to the table.“Some of the plays and throws that he typically makes in practice kind of opened up eyes for a lot of people,” Glidden continued “especially guys that practice with him everyday. It’s not really a surprise now to see him put balls on the money or even get out and scramble a little bit and kind of run away from a few people.”Oklahoma State fans hope they don’t have to see what Cornelius can do with the spotlight in 2017. But what about 2018? Could he make a strong case to compete for the QB1 role next year?Role in 2017The competition to be Mason Rudolph’s backup is a two-man race. Redshirt freshman Keondre Wudtee has shown some nice things in his year-plus in Stillwater and still may have the most upside but Cornelius seems to have a much better grasp of the offense. The battle hasn’t been decided as of yet but all through camp, it’s seemed like Cornelius’ to lose.Noteworthy stats and highlightsCornelius’ reps have come in garbage time but we did get a decent sample size against Southeastern Louisiana, regardless of the level of competition. He showed he could find the open man.

Luis Figo believes some of the criticism levelled at Zinedine Zidane this season has been unfair, suggesting Real Madrid’s detractors have forgotten his previous achievements too quickly.Zidane enjoyed a brilliant start to his coaching career at the Santiago Bernabeu, leading Madrid to Champions League success within five months of replacing the sacked Rafael Benitez in January 2016.He then guided Madrid to a Champions League and LaLiga double in his first full season in charge, helping the club become the first to win Europe’s elite competition in its current guise for two straight years. But I think the people are happy, the players are happy with him and that is the most important.”Part of the reason Madrid are so far behind Barca this season is the form of Lionel Messi, who has been sensational, scoring 22 and setting up another 12 in 25 LaLiga appearances. And his impressive performances have not escaped Figo, who lauded him as “one of the greatest of all time”.”It’s amazing what he is achieving and I think every time he doesn’t surprise us because he makes amazing things every game,” Figo added.”So this is very beautiful what he does in terms of football and his career. He’s one of the greatest footballers of all-time.”

Editors’ Picks Williams case shows Solskjaer isn’t holding Man Utd’s youngsters back – he’s protecting them Goalkeeper crisis! Walker to the rescue but City sweating on Ederson injury ahead of Liverpool clash Out of his depth! Emery on borrowed time after another abysmal Arsenal display Diving, tactical fouls & the emerging war of words between Guardiola & Klopp The A-League wouldn’t mean much to the regular football fan worldwide. Some may know it as where Alessandro Del Piero landed after Juventus, or the league where Dwight Yorke and Robbie Fowler migrated to in their late 30s.But the Australian domestic league was the first professional competition to use the VAR in a competitive match in April 2017, with a trial of the technology being adopted for the A-League since it’s introduction. After announcing that VAR is set to be part of the World Cup, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the technology is ‘almost perfect’.”I would say to the fans, players and coaches that it will have an impact, a positive impact. That is what the results of the study show,” Infantino said.”From almost 1,000 live matches that were part of the experiment, the level of the accuracy increased from 93% to 99%. It’s almost perfect.”Clearly the Swiss-Italian administrator didn’t take much notice of the reaction to the VAR trial Down Under in Australia. In fact, you will struggle to find a positive word about the trial from any fan, player, coach or journalist involved in Australian football.Yes, some incorrect decisions have been overturned. But the issue is with the process – firstly with the length of time it takes when the VAR is used.Regularly a VAR intervention has caused a break in play for minutes, causing fans to become frustrated and restless, but also meaning a team can lose pressure and momentum it had been building against its opposition.Just on the weekend we saw Argentine star Ezequiel Lavezzi miss a penalty for Chinese side Hebei China Fortune after a three minute, 45 second break caused by the VAR.In addition to time issues, the VAR is also causing angst with the type of decisions it is making.Obviously clear-cut offsides and fouls are easy for the VAR to adjudicate on, but what about decisions that require interpretation? Isn’t the game just being re-refereed in this case?Central Coast Mariners coach Paul Okon made his feelings clear on the system after two of his players were sent off by it during a match in December.”If you came to this game tonight and you left here no longer in love with football, who could blame you?” Okon said post-match.”I think it’s probably what everyone is talking about and that’s not the reason why people are turning up watching – it’s not why we turn up to play and coach.”The sentiment was echoed, with a little less emotion, by Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino at the start of this month. After there were three VAR interventions in the first half of Spurs FA Cup victory over Rochdale, Pochettino warned the VAR in its current form will not help football and that the fans are not happy about it.“The first half was embarrassing for everyone. I am not sure that the system [VAR] is going to help,” the Argentine said in his post-match press conference.”We love the game that we know. Football is about emotion, we want to keep the emotion. The fans are not so happy about what they have seen today.”But if my opinion is important, there is a lot of work to do [with the VAR]. We need to talk, to explain. Because today every one of us was confused.”This will not help the football. If we use this system we need to be sure.”Unfortunately for the football world, Infantino and other football administrators seem to be so sure, while the majority of other stakeholders are wary.Imagine if Cristiano Ronaldo is sent off in a World Cup semi-final for a borderline challenge deemed by the officiating referee to be a yellow card, but a red card by the VAR?Imagine a World Cup final blighted by four or five lengthy, confusing VAR stoppages? From the wave of critics in Australia to esteemed personalities such as Pochettino to countless examples of fan frustration to headline-grabbing issues – all the evidence points to a VAR system that is not even close to perfect. So why is it going to be used at football’s showpiece event?
In addition to Krause, Yu said that Peace River North MLA Dan Davies has confirmed his participation in this year’s rally, while other MLA’s both from the BC Liberal Party and the NDP have also been invited, though no other names have yet confirmed. Yu explained that his organization’s official stance is that it will work with the governing New Democrats to get an LNG export industry developed in the province. He added that that he hopes Premier John Horgan will accept an invitation to the rally after his predecessor spoke in Centennial Park two years ago.According to Yu, the venue for next month’s LNG rally is not yet known, but that he hopes to find a suitable venue and sponsors over the next few days. FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — After a pair of rallies in Fort St. John in the Spring of 2016, including one attended by then-Premier Christy Clark, local non-profit organization FSJ for LNG will once again be holding a rally in Fort St. John this Spring.FSJ for LNG founder Alan Yu said that after members of his organization were among several hundred supporters of Canada’s petroleum industry to rally in downtown Vancouver last weekend, he decided that his organization should once again hold a rally in support of B.C. developing a liquified natural gas industry. Yu said that though 2017 featured some disheartening news for LNG, including Petronas cancelling its proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG project, 2018 is shaping up to be much more optimistic as a global supply glut of LNG is forecast to turn into a shortage in just a few years.Yu said that this year, FSJ for LNG has confirmed that Vivian Krause is set to deliver a keynote address at this year’s rally, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 21st. Krause is a controversial Vancouver-based blogger and researcher who has received both praise and condemnation for her research into environmental charities in Canada, particularly their source of funding. In addition to hosting her Fair Questions blog, Krause also writes for The Financial Post.

New Delhi: The BJP is set to come out with details of the Modi government’s works toward fulfilling the promises it had made in its manifesto in 2014, with party sources asserting that over 520 of a total of 549 assurances given were either met or work on them is successfully going on. The decision assumes significance as ahead of the coming general election opposition parties have accused the BJP of failing to fulfil the promises it had made before the last Lok Sabha polls. A team of BJP leaders has been entrusted with the task of collating details of the work the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government had done in fulfilling these promises, like on generating employment, proving people social security and enhancing internal security. A party leader privy to the development said the BJP had under different agenda items made nearly 549 promises before the last general election. “As many as 520 of them have either been fulfilled or work on them has been going on as their completion require a certain time period,” he said. Another party leader said there are several other “successful” initiatives of the government, such as Ujjwala and Mudra, which were not part of the BJP’s manifesto but have benefited a large number of people. The government provided free LPG connection to the poor households under the Ujjwala scheme while loans are provided for self-employment under Mudra. BJP vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said the Modi government stands out for working on a long-term agenda and overcoming the “attraction of quick-fixes by turning its back on populism”. He cited implementation of the GST as an example of the government’s long-term vision and asserted that the BJP has become the only party which has brought into electoral fray the politics of performance and development. “Is an opposition party like the Congress telling people that this is what it had done for them when it was in power so that they should vote for it?” he asked, slamming the BJP’s rivals for their negative agenda. The Modi government has vastly expanded social security umbrella and given dignity, especially to the poor while its track record on internal and external security fronts are also unmatched, Sahasrabuddhe said.
Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp#Bahamas, September 26, 2017 – Nassau – As the Department of Labour continues to fulfill its’ mission of fostering good industrial relations between employers and employees, while promoting high levels of employment, the Department facilitated a two-day “Productivity Legislation Workshop” from September 20 – 21, 2017. The workshop, sponsored by the International Labour Organization and the National Tripartite Council, brought all social partners to the table to discuss the state of productivity and competitiveness in The Bahamas. Social partners included executives of The Bahamas Department of Labor as well as participants from various trade unions, the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce & Employers Confederation, corporations and other local agencies. On Wednesday, 21st September, at the opening ceremony of the two day workshop, brief remarks were given by representatives from each pillar of the National Tripartite Council including Mr. Bernard Evans, President of the National Congress of Trade Unions Bahamas (NCTUB); Mr. Peter Goudie, Bahamas Chamber of Commerce & Employers Confederation (BCCEC); Mr. Tyrone “Rock” Morris, Secretary General, Commonwealth of The Bahamas Trade Union Congress (CBTUC) and Mr. Kelvin Sergeant, ILO Specialist for Sustainable Enterprise & Job Creation.Mr. Bernard Evans stated in remarks at the opening that after more than 20 years of advocacy for implementation of the Productivity Council here in The Bahamas, it would provide hope in an effort to save a generation of unskilled, unprepared working Bahamians who are ill-equipped to compete on a level both regionally and internationally. He noted that the main objective of the two day workshop would be to bring together key stakeholders in the various sectors to strategize on productivity improvement and competitiveness with special focus on private sector; to develop a National Action Plan for Productivity Development in The Bahamas.Mr. Evans stated that the plan should outline the performance priority areas, the key indicators of performance on all islands and also focus on a system for monitoring performance and assignment of responsibilities by all stakeholders. Also, to establish a Bahamian organization of Productivity Agents that will promote the development of productivity and performance-related activities to facilitate regional and international competitiveness and sustainability in production of goods and services within all of our islands. This, he noted, will improve the quality of life for workers and citizens alike. Mr. Evans suggests that legislation is a start and is hopeful that the current Government administration will commit to putting necessary legislation in place to begin the process.Similarly, Mr. Kelvin Sergeant, ILO Specialist for Sustainable Enterprise & Job Creation is pleased with productivity becoming a critical word in The Bahamas over the past few years. He is encouraged that there are a broad range of voices – from politicians and business groups to economists, academics and unions – who are talking about productivity and what should be done to get performance up to speed. He noted that in order to achieve the acceleration of productive growth in The Bahamas, it requires a country-specific mix of policies aimed at creating an environment conducive to sustainable enterprises, building human capital in basic education including technical and core skills, encouraging the application of decent and productive workplace practices, addressing sector-specific challenges, promoting environmental-friendly technology and ways of doing business.Mr. Sergeant specifically noted that the focus for the two day workshop would be frank discussions on the importance of productivity performance and what the productivity challenges are in The Bahamas. The interventions needed at all levels of productivity improvement, including the need for legislation to establish a national productivity council is also a paramount focus. The Minister of Labour, Senator the Hon. Dion A. Foulkes officially opened the workshop by thanking the ILO Team, including Claudia Coenjaerts and Kelvin Sergeant, for their exceptional job in executing the mandate of the ILO in the region. Minister Foulkes stated that the Government of The Bahamas cannot achieve the goal of increasing economic growth through National Productivity by itself, therefore he congratulated the organizers of the workshop and pledged the Government’s full commitment to continue to work with the International Labour Organization, the National Tripartite Council and all of the social partners to fully implement a National Productivity Council. Minister Foulkes declared the historic workshop open and noted that he looked forward to the results of the deliberations over the two days. The workshop was held at the Department of Labour on Rosetta Street and included discussions and work sessions on The State of Productivity and Competitiveness in The Bahamas, Understanding Productivity and its relation to economic growth and Economic Transformation and Policy Reponses.Director of Labour, Mr. A. Robert Farquharson advised that he was pleased with the work completed during the workshop and looks forward to presenting the results to the Minister.Press Release: Department of LabourPhoto captions:Header: Group of workshop participants representing the Department of Labour, ILO, National Tripartite Council and other social partners.1st insert: Workshop participants at the National Productivity Legislation Workshop.2nd insert:Peter Goudie, presenting to the workshop participants.3rd insert: Workshop Facilitator, Kelvin Sergeant, ILO Specialist for Sustainable Enterprise & Job Creation presenting to the workshop participants. Giant e-commerce retailer Amazon will hire more than 1,000 Indian professionals to increase the workflow of the research and development (R&D) segment of the company. This should provide cheer to professionals looking to upgrade their technical skills, The Times of India reported on Thursday. The new recruits are expected to cater to the company’s divisions, which include Amazon.com, Amazon.in, the devices business, the cloud computing division and Amazon Web Services (AWS).Amazon’s website had announced 1,245 positions in India on its careers page as of Wednesday evening. India is at present the largest workforce centre for Amazon after the US.”India is a big focus area for talent,” said Dale Vaz, director of software development at Amazon India. The company has said that new hiring would be limited only by the availability of talent in the specific technologies where it is recruiting. That limits the scope for fresh software graduates, as they may not have an understanding of the specific skills needed for the roles that Amazon is looking to fill.”We process a lot of data and are always looking for data processing and profiling engineers,” Dale Vaz added. Amazon is seeking employees for areas like research, data analytics, natural language processing, artificial intelligence and Android developers. At present, Amazon Web Services has about 195 vacancies in India. Among open positions in India, Bengaluru tops the chart with 557 vacancies and Hyderabad with 403 positions unfilled. Employment opportunities in the IT sector have plunged substantially, suggesting that the sector’s focus has shifted to mass automation in India. At a time, when IT layoffs are on the rise and expectations that employment prospects for IT graduates might sink further, companies such as Amazon looking at mass hiring might be a small indication of the trend reversing. If more companies pull the trigger on increasing job offers in the IT sector, it could mean an uptick in the employment trend rather than fall in recruitments.Further, the government on Tuesday said job losses through automation should not be a concern for people in the short term as growth momentum in India, is picking up at a fast pace, and can result in more employment generation for citizens. However, according to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), over 60 percent of the 800,000 engineering graduates India produces annually remain unemployed.

Free Workshop | August 28: Get Better Engagement and Build Trust With Customers Now 2 min read Tesla wants Martin Tripp to pay up big time — it’s seeking a whopping $167 million from the former employee, which company chief Elon Musk once called a saboteur. The electric vehicle maker filed a lawsuit against Tripp earlier this year, accusing the former employee of stealing gigabytes’ worth of proprietary information and giving it to outsiders, as well as of making false claims to reporters. Now, according to CNBC, an interim case management report published on November 27th revealed that Tesla “objected to Mr. Tripp’s desire to take more than ten depositions” for a case where he is being sued for $167 million in damages.Related: Police Catch Tesla Autopilot Driving Home Sleeping DrunkTripp’s lawyer Robert D. Mitchell, who described the amount Tesla is demanding as “absurd,” told CNBC:”The purported damage amount claimed by Tesla relates to supposed dips in Tesla’s stock price by virtue of the information Mr. Tripp provided to the press last summer.”In the automaker’s original lawsuit, the company said Tripp “admitted to writing software that hacked Tesla’s manufacturing operating system and to transferring several gigabytes of Tesla data to outside entities.” Leaked emails between Musk and Tripp showed how an exchange between them turned increasingly ugly, with each one calling the other a “horrible human being.”The former employee, who used to work as a process engineer at Tesla’s Gigafactory, filed a complaint of his own with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June. He accused Tesla of making “material omissions and misstatements” to investors as well as of putting cars with safety issues on the road. Tripp also tweeted photos of what he said were images showing Tesla’s flawed manufacturing practices and handling of scrap at the lithium battery factory. The company denied Tripp’s claims, telling Engadget that the former employee “does not even have personal knowledge about the safety claims that he is making.” This story originally appeared on Engadget December 12, 2018
