The boost—a response to lobbying by patient advocates and concerns about burgeoning costs to the U.S. health care system—is aimed at helping meet a controversial national goal to develop effective treatments for the disease by 2025. The National Institute on Aging, which oversees the new funds, is luring investigators from other fields to bring in fresh ideas.
