Visit Corus at Historia is revealing the remarkable cast of the dramatic series Jean Béliveau about the life of a national hero, the “gentleman of hockey,” which began filming on October 20. Pierre-Yves Cardinal will have the honour of playing the famous Number 4 and former captain of the Canadiens, alongside Madeleine Péloquin who will play his wife, Élise Béliveau. Co-stars will include Patrice Bélanger (Boom Boom Geoffrion), Marc Beaupré (Henri Richard), Frédéric Blanchette (Butch Bouchard), Bruno Marcil (Maurice Richard) and Stéphane Crête (René Lecavalier). Béliveau is a hockey legend, and though he was constantly under pressure, he was armed with unmatched strength of character and overcame several injuries. Relive the highlights of this national hero’s career, which spanned from 1950 to 1971. Originally from Victoriaville, he began playing for the Citadelles in Quebec City, followed by the Quebec Aces before he went on to become the captain of the Montréal Canadiens, earning five Stanley Cups. Béliveau was considered one of the best hockey players of his time. Young players sought to imitate him on the ice, while older ones revered him as a model of loyalty, rectitude and resilience.
