Warriors CEO after Kevin Durant’s departure: ‘No player will ever wear No. 35 for the Warriors again’

first_img Kevin Durant free agency: Star signing with Nets weeks after potential career-changing injury Knicks address missing out on Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving: ‘We continue to be upbeat and confident’ D’Angelo Russell free agency rumors: Warriors unexpectedly acquire guard in sign-and-trade with Nets “Three years ago, we were thrilled with the arrival of Kevin Durant,” Lacob said in part. “He provided our fans and franchise with numerous highlights during his stay here … and carried himself with class and dignity both on and off the court.”Today, as he starts a new chapter in his incredible career, we thank KD for all of his contributions, for being an integral part to one of the most prolific runs in NBA history and wish him well as he continues his Hall of Fame journey. As long as I am co-chairman of this team, no player will ever wear No. 35 for the Warriors again.” Related News Kevin Durant left his mark on the Golden State organization, and co-chairman and CEO Joe Lacob assured that his time with the Warriors will be remembered in a special way.In a statement released Monday, the day after Durant reportedly signed a max deal with the Nets, Lacob addressed Durant’s departure. Durant averaged 26 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists for Golden State last season before he ruptured his Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. He is expected to miss all of next season. The 10-time All-Star won two championships and was named Finals MVP twice during his time with the Warriors. Now, he’ll be on another star-studded team with close friend Kyrie Irving, who reportedly agreed to a contract with the Nets on Sunday, as well.Brooklyn also reportedly inked center DeAndre Jordan — another close friend of Durant’s — to a deal, and agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract with Garrett Temple, according to ESPN.last_img read more

Mayor: Broward Restaurants to Remain Open with Tighter Rules

first_imgBroward County has a revised plan to combat the growing number of coronavirus cases. On Wednesday, officials announced that instead of again closing restaurants to cope with the spread of the disease, they will merely tighten restrictions. To that end, restaurants will be required to limit tables to six people for indoor dining, and must close by 10 p.m., under an order from County Administrator Bertha Henry.Mayor Dale Holness said the new policy will take effect this Friday. In addition, restaurants that violate the order will be closed for 24 hours. Each additional violation will require the business to close for another 72 hours.Fines could end up being as high as $15,000.Vacation rentals also will have stricter rules, since they are being used to host parties. The order will require that only the people who signed up for the rental be allowed there.#SafetyFirst @AskBMSD— Municipal Svcs Dist (@AskBMSD) July 8, 2020 “If we don’t take all take responsibility to reduce the spread of this virus, what will happen is that the economy will continue to get worse because people are not going to be comfortable going out to dine,” Holness said.If the restrictions do not ultimately stop the rise in numbers, Holness said county officials could tighten enforcement, increase fines and close other businesses. He added that the order will remain in place until there is a drop in cases.Holness said earlier this week that more than 50 percent of complaints the county receives on its 311 hotline are regarding restaurants not following rules.Palm Beach County has not announced any similar closures at this time, although Mayor Dave Kerner said he could not say what may happen in the coming days.Broward’s beaches opened last Monday after being closed for the Fourth of July weekend.Florida recorded nearly 9,989 new cases of the coronavirus and 48 more deaths on Wednesday.Locally, Broward has 23,781 confirmed cases and 419 deaths. Palm Beach County has 18,231 confirmed cases and 569 deaths.last_img read more

Steel Sensations: A look into training camp thus far

first_imgEditors Note: This column was written before Plaxico Burress’ possible season ending injury Thursday. Burress will have surgery on Monday to repair an injury in his right shoulder and is out indefinitely. Coach Mike Tomlin called the damage to Burress’ shoulder “significant” but declined to specify the exact nature of the injury. ESPN and reported Burress has a torn rotator cuff. A youngster from the Woodland Hills youth football team is thrilled as he wears Plaxico Burress’ shoulder pads as they take the field at training camp July 31. (Courier Photo/William McBride) “Not good work today, great work” Mike Tomlin stated after last Saturday’s practice. It was a practice much luck the others that preceded it this training camp, full of hard hitting and tackling.  After spending a few days on the sideline watching the team practice it became apparent they are on a mission in 2013. Tomlin and his troops were embarrassed by missing the playoffs last year and they don’t want to see that happen two years straight.  The team has been running some great drills that have seen some incredible plays by both offensive and defensive players alike and certainly haven’t been short of bone crushing hits and tackles. Tomlin is working this team, perhaps making them pay for last year’s shortcomings or perhaps preparing them so they won’t fall short again. Either way, the team appears focused and ready to take on the world.  It’s apparent the team will use both young and old players and they seem to be mixing together nicely so far.Troy Polamalu stated “We have a good mix of experience and youth” and he’s absolutely correct.  So far he has looked very good in camp making some plays in Red Zone drills that the Troy of old used to make.  To compliment that, Jarvis Jones has been impressive in drills, running with the first team and showing some extreme bursts of speed and ability.  There are still battles to be won and one of those features Jones vs. Jason Worilds for the starting outside linebacker job.  Larry Foote could be seen coaching up Jones before one on one drills, showing him how to make some inside and outside moves and sharing his many years of knowledge with the rookie. Jones did not disappoint as he roughed up many of the running backs and full backs he matched up with.Worilds is battling a toe injury currently and when asked what he needs to do to become the starter he stated he needs to “continue to play my game”. Worilds has started in the past and has made some plays but after watching Jones, it may be tough to grab that job.  Both will be impact players on this squad and will see significant time either way but Jones seems to have the edge right now.Another key battle is on the offensive side of the ball for the two through four receiver spots. Antonio Brown is the clear number one and continues to be a crowd favorite with his work ethic (he’s the only player I saw who rode his bike after practice to the lunch room vs. taking a golf cart) and his infectious smile and interaction with the crowd.  The two spot seems to be in the hands of Emmanuel Sanders but rookie Markus Wheaton saw reps with the first team as well.  The three and four spots will be battled out between Sanders, Wheaton, Plaxico Burress and Jerricho Cotchery.Burress looked great in workouts making a few impressive TD grabs and mixing it up with the refs even on plays he wasn’t in on. Though no roles have been defined yet, Burress noted “I’m just going to go out and compete, and in the red zone score touchdowns and draw double coverage”. With his height and skill set there is room on this team for him to do just that. Not only can he be an impact on the field but Burress seems to be taking to the idea of helping the young receivers as well. Having been around the league for a while he’s taken it upon himself to teach the younger guys about reading coverage and they seem to be all for it.  LeVeon Bell has looked like the back this team has been missing since the end of the Willie Parker era. He’s fast but has the ability to hammer it home. While he’s battling with Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer, he has to be the leading candidate at this point to win the starting job.  It’s not all business on the field, the team has done some fooling around to entertain the crowd as well. The QB’s will do a challenge in which they need to throw the ball about 40 yards across the field into a trash can; Big Ben seems to win that one more often than not.The receivers and punt returners see who can catch the most punt machine balls in a row while holding all the previous balls they caught at the same time.  Emmanuel Sanders holds the current record with 6 catches in a row. That’s no easy feat.  Overall the team looks loose, they look fit and they look ready. The true test will be in game action but from a practice perspective these guys look hungry and ready to go and if they want to avoid the pitfalls of 2012, they’ll need to continue the “Great Work” Mike Tomlin described.Mike Pelaia hosts the website Steel Nation Association – Covering the Steelers and helping Children’s Hospital All Day Everyday. Meghan Markles outrageous demand while in public Duchess of Sussex taking things

first_imgMeghan MarkleThe Duke and Duchess of Sussex Official Instagram (sussexroyal)It looks like Meghan Markle may not be the people’s Duchess after all. Reportedly, the Duchess of Sussex appeared at Wimbledon last week to cheer on Serena Williams on Centre Court but according to one spectator, the Duchess made one bold demand while there.Meghan Markle is a celebrity. As a former Hollywood star and now a Royal, Meghan Markle has one of the most famous faces in the world. However, according to a media consultant who was seated close to the royal during her Wimbledon experience, Meghan made a request for those seated nearby to respect her privacy when taking photos. It is no secret that Meghan Markle values her privacy and protects it fiercely, even if it rubs some people the wrong way. Namely the public and the press. But Meghan might be taking things a little too far. Reported by The Daily Telegraph, Sally Jones, was ordered not to take any pictures because Meghan was at the event “in a private capacity.”  Meghan MarkleGetty ImagesHaving been informed of the request by a royal protection officer, Ms. Jones insisted that it was yet another “another example of silly control freakery.”Ms. Jones added: “I think this royal protection officer was quite embarrassed. Meghan Markle may be entitled to her privacy. But to not allow other people to enjoy a public sporting event the way they want to might be a little too much. Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, a palace source said: “It’s not unusual for people accompanying Members of the Royal Family at private, or public, events to ask members of the public not to take photographs…..It is to enable Members of the Royal Family to engage with people and events.”If this is the kind of engagement with the public the Palace is referring to then people might not want to interact with the Royals at all.last_img read more

Varied colours of moods and moments

first_imgWe have our own ups and downs, happy and sorrow moments, rejections and acceptances, success and failures and we sway our moods with these expressions of life. Same is the case with an artist. It is the intensity of the situation that makes the artist play with the lines, apply colour to his art, give it a definite form and infuse life in it. Thus, the final outcome will be the projection of an artist’s expression which will be depicted in the work and that will give the canvas its moods and moments. AWS introduces Amazon DocumentDB featuring compatibility with MongoDB scalability and much more

first_imgToday, Amazon Web Services ( AWS) introduced a MongoDB compatible Amazon DocumentDB designed to provide performance, scalability, and availability needed while operating mission-critical MongoDB workloads. Customers use MongoDB as a document database to retrieve, store and manage semi-structured data. But it is difficult to build performant, highly available applications that can quickly scale to multiple terabytes and thousands of reads- and writes-per-second because of the complexity that comes with setting up MongoDB clusters at scale. Amazon DocumentDB uses a fault-tolerant, distributed and self-healing storage system that auto-scales up to 64 TB per database cluster. With AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) users can migrate their MongoDB databases which are on-premise or on Amazon EC2 to Amazon DocumentDB for free (for six months) with no downtime. Features of Amazon DocumentDB Compatibility Amazon DocumentDB, compatible with version 3.6 of MongoDB, also implements the Apache 2.0 open source MongoDB 3.6 API. This implementation is possible by emulating the responses that a MongoDB client expects from a MongoDB server, further allowing users to use the existing MongoDB drivers and tools with Amazon DocumentDB. Scalability Storage in the Amazon DocumentDB can be scaled from 10 GB to 64 TB in increments of 10 GB. With this document database service, users don’t have to preallocate storage or monitor free space. Users can choose between six instance sizes (15.25 GiB (Gibibyte) to 488 GiB of memory) and also create up to 15 read replicas. Storage and compute can be decoupled and one can easily scale each one independently as needed. Performance Amazon DocumentDB stores database changes as a log stream which allows users to process millions of reads per second with millisecond latency. This storage model provides an increase in the performance without compromising data durability and further enhance the overall scalability. Reliability Amazon DocumentDB’s 6-way storage replication provides high availability. It can failover from primary to a replica within 30 seconds and also supports MongoDB replica set emulation such that the applications can quickly handle system failure. Fully Managed Amazon DocumentDB is fully managed with fault detection, built-in monitoring, and failover. Users can set up daily snapshot backups, take manual snapshots, or use either one to create a fresh cluster if necessary. It integrates with Amazon CloudWatch, so users can monitor over 20 key operational metrics for their database instances via the AWS Management Console. Secure Users can encrypt their active data, snapshots, and replicas with the KMS (Key Management Service) key while creating Amazon DocumentDB clusters. In this document database service, authentication is enabled by default. For the security of the database, it also uses network isolation with the help of Amazon VPC. According to Infoworld, this news has given rise to few speculations as AWS isn’t promising that its managed service will work with all applications that use MongoDB. But this move by Amazon has now led to a new rivalry. MongoDB CEO and president Dev Ittycheria told Techcrunch, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so it’s not surprising that Amazon would try to capitalize on the popularity and momentum of MongoDB’s document model. However, developers are technically savvy enough to distinguish between the real thing and poor imitation. MongoDB will continue to outperform any impersonations in the market.” As reported by Geekwire and Techcrunch, Amazon DocumentDB’s compatibility with MongoDB is unlikely to require commercial licensing from MongoDB. Trump hotel in Washington rises as luxury oasis from campaign chaos

first_img Share Posted by Travelweek Group WASHINGTON — Donald Trump may be spending most of his days inside the frantic hurricane of the presidential campaign, but inside his new hotel in Washington, calm and luxury prevail.Staff members offer impeccable service, serving Champagne to guests waiting to check in and preparing rooms with turned-down covers and bedside chocolates. Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., says he’s confident the Trump International Hotel fronting Pennsylvania Avenue a few blocks from the White House will be a place for both Democrats and Republicans — no matter who wins.“It’s not designed to be a partisan hotel,” Trump Jr. said. “It’s a luxury hotel for all of D.C.”That remains to be seen. Hundreds of people protested outside the hotel during the ribbon-cutting Wednesday. The rally started as a protest demanding that Trump recognize union representation for workers at a Las Vegas hotel, but it broadened into a larger anti-Trump event.Trump attended the ribbon-cutting, calling it a “metaphor for what we can accomplish” and taking precious time away from an apparently sagging campaign. He summed up the project with only a few words: “under budget and ahead of schedule.” And he noted the renovation and operation of the hotel had created hundreds of jobs. The Trump Organization agreed to open the hotel by 2018 and invest $200 million in it in a deal with the federal government, which owns the site. A Trump website describes the project as costing $200 million, so it was unclear what the “under budget” statement referred to.The hotel staff appears as diverse as any workforce in America — despite Trump’s divisive remarks about immigrants, Muslims and other ethnic groups. A note atop the Gideon Bible in every guest room states that Qurans and other holy books are available upon request, a standard amenity at luxury hotels.More news:  Can you guess the top Instagrammed wedding locations in the world?Trump supporter Brenda Dunaway, at the 263-room hotel with friends for lunch Wednesday, stood in the lobby beneath chandeliers and a soaring glass roof and gave her approval. “It’s beautiful and tastefully done,” she said. “I hope it’s a big success.”Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric led two celebrity chefs, Jose Andres and Geoffrey Zakarian, to back out of running restaurants in the hotel, but David Burke’s Prime BLT is open in the lobby. Burke was on hand Tuesday night to chat with diners. No second restaurant has been announced. The five-star Trump International Hotel is located in an 1899 landmark, the Old Post Office, which was in disrepair when the Trump Organization won a bid from the federal government to turn it into a hotel in 2013.Nina Gardner, a consultant who lives in the area, decided to attend the protest when she heard about it Wednesday morning. “I’m totally against Donald Trump and his candidacy,” she said. She has friends who are boycotting Ivanka Trump’s clothing and jewelry line, and she predicted his campaign would “end up hurting his business.”Rates at Trump hotels have been falling and some residents of a Trump apartment building in New York are trying to have the name removed. But Ivanka Trump insisted all was well as she stood by her father’s side Wednesday: “Our business at Trump Hotels continues to thrive.”Rates start around $400 most nights but cheapest rooms were over $600 for the night before Trump’s visit. Suites run into the thousands. Some five-star D.C. hotels charge much more.More news:  Universal enhances popular Harry Potter vacation package with new perksThe hotel’s renovation has been criticized for an excess of glitz and gold leaf — signature Trump decor — while covering up marble floors with carpets and walls with drapes. The Trumps defend the renovation as a mix of old and new.John Cullinane, an architect who worked on the project early on but left, had been among its critics, but declined to comment when reached by phone, saying the Trumps had sent him a letter threatening legal action. The hotel’s managing director, Mickael Damelincourt, said the hotel’s prime D.C. location and 300,000 square feet of meeting space, along with the city’s largest luxury ballroom, ensures its success. He said the hotel had already hosted two weddings and “board of director meetings from major corporations,” but declined to identify any of the groups.A clock tower that’s part of the Old Post Office has traditionally been open to the public, offering views of the city from one of the highest points in Washington. It’s closed for renovations, but Donald Trump Jr. said it should be open by the end of the year and will be operated by the National Park Service.Rick Tyler, former spokesman for Trump’s primary rival, Sen. Ted Cruz, said that “because it’s in D.C., there’s a layer of political consideration” among potential hotel guests. “But my guess is Donald Trump will lose and people will more or less forget about that,” he said. “Very few will make a decision about staying there based on Donald Trump’s candidacy.” << Previous PostNext Post >>center_img Friday, October 28, 2016 Tags: Donald Trump, Trump Hotels Trump hotel in Washington rises as luxury oasis from campaign chaoslast_img read more
