NGO campaigns for use of paper bags

first_imgHyderabad: To help foster eco-friendly environment and also to help avoid use of plastic, a city-based NGO Dhruvansh is conducing a workshop on on making paper bags making use of newspapers at Langar Houz lake and Errakunta lake. The main aim of this workshop is to draw focus to the need for cutting down on use of plastic bags, and encourage people to adopt paper bags in place of plastic bags. Also Read – Warrant issued against Renuka Chowdhury in cheating case Advertise With Us Speaking to Hans India, Madhulika Choudhary, the founder of Dhruvansh, said around 500 volunteers are helping them as part of the initiative and they are in the process of distributing paper bags to the shops near the lakes for free of cost. More than 46 shops near Lagar House lake were provided newspaper bags, she said. She added that such bags would also be distributed to the shops nearby Errakunta lake. Volunteers of the NGO have visited almost all the shops near Lagar Houz lake and also pasted “No plastic bags” posters on walls, she informed. Last month, a similar workshop was organised at Sanjeevaiah Park by the NGO in which 250 volunteers participated. Around 7500 paper bags were distributed to shops till now. “It is an ongoing drive it would continue till the elimination of the plastic bags by shopkeepers,” vows Madhulika.last_img read more
