García, of Holland.VanderMolen earned the Capitol trip after participating in Representative García’s Summer Reading Contest in 2016, turning in one entry each for every 10 books she read between May and September.“This was a great experience for Lydia and me,” Representative García said. “She earned the opportunity to be in Lansing, where she toured the Capitol, joined me on the floor during a House session and we had lunch together. Lydia was great to work with and I hope this was an experience she’ll never forget.”Lydia was joined by her parents, Rebecca and Fig, and her sister Joanna, a first grade student at Hudsonville Christian School, in Lansing.“I appreciated that so many kids like Lydia participated in this contest, dropping off entries at the Gary Byker Memorial Library in Hudsonville, Howard Miller Public Library in Zeeland and Herrick District Library in Holland,” said Representative García. “It’s always a good time to read. With schools being on summer break during this contest, there was added time for the kids to enjoy more books.”Katriya Murphy, a homeschool student from Holland, was also randomly selected by Representative García to visit the Capitol and is scheduled to visit in late February.PHOTO INFORMATION: State Representative Daniela R.
